The 2025 PCAPIA Legislative Conference at the Hyatt Regency brought together public adjusters, insurance professionals, and legal experts in Sacramento for two days of networking and critical property insurance claims discussions.
The conference kicked off on February 25 with an evening reception, providing attendees the opportunity to connect before a half day of educational sessions on February 26.The morning began with a comprehensive review of California Property Insurance Case Law, Principles, and Statutes by esteemed attorneys Amy Bach and William (Chip) Merlin. Their session covered key insurance statutes, significant case law precedents, and best practices for public adjusters. Topics included coverage disputes, bad faith claims handling, and emerging trends such as climate-related losses and wildfire claims.
Following this, Sandy Moriarty, CPCU, delivered an insightful presentation on Current Developments in First Party Claims Handling. She highlighted recent updates in California insurance regulations, notable court decisions, and the evolving challenges adjusters face due to natural disasters, policy interpretation disputes, and new technologies in claims assessment. Practical strategies were shared to help public adjusters navigate these changes while ensuring compliance and effective claims resolution.
The day wrapped up with legislative appointments, giving attendees the opportunity to connect directly with California policymakers and address key issues impacting both public adjusters and policyholders.
